Working principle

Distributing the pre-tensioning force over a larger area reduces the pressure exerted on the contact surfaces of the joint. This reduces deformation and creep phenomena. Washers protect sensitive surfaces from mechanical damage.

Material

In addition to steel in different hardness classes, available materials include stainless steel, plastic, aluminium and brass. Care must be taken to use washers of the appropriate hardness, particularly when using high-strength screws.

Surfaces

Our products can be coated with different surface finishes, depending on requirements and application. We will be pleased to give you individual advice on the right coating system.

Types of flat washers

  • Large diameter washers

    Large diameter or fender washers have a very large outer diameter.
    This distributes pre-tensioning force over a significantly larger area. These components are used for soft materials or large through holes.

  • Conical cups

    Conical cups can be used in combination with spherical washers to compensate for angular errors between screw axes and clamping part surfaces.
    When used individually, the spherical shape must be matched on the opposite side of the joint (e.g. with a collar nut).

  • Spherical washers

    Spherical washers can be used in combination with conical cups to compensate for angular errors between screw axes and clamping part surfaces.
    When used individually, the spherical shape must be matched on the opposite side of the joint (e.g. with a cone on the fastener).

  • Shim rings

    A combination of appropriately dimensioned shim rings compensates for unwanted axial play. For this purpose, shim rings are available in closely graduated thicknesses.

  • Washers

    Washers distribute forces over a larger area. This reduces the pressure exerted on the contact surfaces of a joint. At the same time, it also protects the component surface, as the relative movement between the fastener and the component only takes place in the joint between the washer and the fastener.

    Sealing washers are pressed into holes to create a seal. They are not actually fastening components. Sealing washers are also called sealing caps.
